Black Ice, a documentary by Hubert Davis
Black Ice” is a 2022 Canadian documentary that explores the history of the Coloured Hockey League of the Maritimes in the early 20th century. Based in part on Darril Fosty and George Fosty’s non-fiction book “Black Ice: The Lost History of the Colored Hockey League of the Maritimes, 1895-1925”, the film highlights the enduring history of anti-black racism in the sport of ice hockey. It is produced by Vinay Virmani and counts the likes of Drake, LeBron James and Maverick Carter among its executive producers.
The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it won the Audience Award for Documentary. In addition, “Black Ice” was selected as one of TIFF’s annual Top Ten Canadian Films of 2022.
